DC Earned Income Tax Credit Campaign

CAAB manages the DC EITC Campaign a citywide campaign to educate taxpayers about the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) and other tax benefits that can boost their annual incomes.  In 2005, 47,000 District residents claimed the EITC, bringing more than 82 million federal dollars into the local economy. Several DC EITC Campaign partners provide free tax preparation assistance to thousands of DC-area residents during the tax season.

In 2007, DC EITC Campaign partners:

• hosted 20 free tax preparation sites
• recruited and trained more than 500 volunteers to prepare taxes
• prepared tax returns for more than 4,300 taxpayers, returning $1.7 million through the EITC, and more than $5.3 million in total refunds..

Outside of the tax season, CAAB and other campaign partners offer financial education workshops, credit and housing counseling services, and matched savings programs to free tax assistance clients and others.
