CAAB Graduates and Successful Savers with CAAB Savings Program Director Emily Appel.
In addition to the recognition ceremony, attendees heard inspiring words from various speakers including CAAB Board President Nancy Register, who welcomed everyone and discussed the ongoing commitment CAAB has to its savers even after completion of the IDA or MDA savings programs. Citi's State Director of Community Relations Jamie Foroughi congratulated the Savers on Citi's behalf and discussed the importance of continuing to budget and save.
IDA Graduate Jennie Huffman also spoke about her personal journey in the IDA program and how grateful she is for CAAB. “With the help of CAAB and the IDA program, I was able to walk into [the University of the District of Columbia], register, pay my fees, and pay for my books in one day because the money was sitting there for me to use,” Huffman said.
The event was catered by Furard Tate, a DC-native and the founder of Inspire Youth Development Organization (IYDO), Mr. Tate was also the keynote speaker for the event, challenging the audience to continue saving and making it a lifestyle. His inspiring words brought savers to their feet—looking backwards to see where they came from, and reaching forward to see the extent of their reach with their newfound savings skills and CAAB’s continued support.
